What do you mean by Empowerment:

I believe that we first considered empowerment as desirable as a response to giving away power or being “powerless.” To be empowered is to control someone’s life. (However, it does not include power over the lives of others.)

In management terms, empowerment is giving power and authority to a person to perform their assigned duties in any way, and having the power to make decisions. Simply put, a person can complete his job description with minimal supervision. To be empowered and to have control or power over life, it includes control over all facets of life: it means thinking for yourself and taking responsibility for one’s own life, as well as being active instead of just passive; it means going beyond independence to independence.
Traditionally, an employee must request permission from a supervisor before making a decision. In such a system, time is wasted while searching for and waiting for approval. Instead of wasting time in this process, time can be spent solving a more critical problem that exists.
The term empowerment do refer to measures designed to increase and extraordinary the degree of autonomy and self-determination showing among people and in communities or societies to enable them to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined manner, acting on their own authority.
We hear a lot about empowerment nowadays. Being empowered is considered a desirable state to achieve – and definitely a desirable state to live your life with. But how do we reach that state; how can we strengthen ourselves?
However, it is true that the older generations of management often express the difficulty of having to accept such a concept. Instead of giving right freedom to their subordinates, they prefer to be limited involved in every decision to be made. We do see the similarities of this act with the autocratic ruling system, above all of which is a supreme ruler.

Those against the concept of empowerment are probably too narrow to accept something new. Either that or they feel more at ease with the power they have, rather than surrendering it to someone in a lower hierarchy.
More About Empowerment
We are talking about importance of knowing our own truth. Knowing our own truth, knowing who we are – self-knowledge – and trusting are powerful things. And once we know our truth, to live our life with it.
Being competent is knowing the truth, thinking for yourself, being independent and yet feeling a connection, being active as well as being passive, taking responsibility for ourselves. A self-empowered person has integrated integrity with all its components. A real “whole”.
Now that we have dissected the meaning of empowerment to death, how are we empowered? Let us first look at what can stand in our way. What are the obstacles for empowerment? What should we change or bypass?
One of the most important obstacles to self-determination is our social conditioning. We are conditioned to give our strength away. We are conditioned to regard established authorities as absolute knowledge, as icons that should not be called into question. A good example of this is the social vision of medicines and doctors. We are trained to take doctors’ advice as gospel and not to question or play an active role in our own health care. This is the view of “M.D.’s” as “medical gods.” Fortunately, this attitude is changing. We learn to take responsibility for our own health. We learn that we can question authority and still respect it while respecting ourselves.
Another way our conditioning blocks empowerment is exactly how we are trained to think. Just as we are trained not to question authorities, we are also trained to think that things should only be one way. I consider this one-dimensional or “totalitarian” thinking that does not take into account originality or variances or even shades of gray. Just as physicists discover that scientific laws are not hard and fast, matter or objects do not always dictate scientific laws, so old, rigid concepts must become more flexible. Women are therefore no longer necessarily dominated by men. We now also do not realize that some form of domination is needed.
The ‘one-dimensionality’ of our cultural conditioning leads us to see ourselves in very limited light – if only one or a few things are or do – or only socially prescribed things. Women therefore only have to act in one way, and men only have to act in one (other) way. Seeing ourselves as just one thing – and therefore not seeing other options for ourselves – is very restrictive. Seeing ourselves as only white or black or American, as female or male, as Christian or Jew, as American or Russian – limits our potential.
Being competent is seeing and developing our potential. How often are you surprised that a doctor also writes poetry or that a well-known actor paints well or that your car mechanic can also sing? We become stronger as we go beyond the obstacles of restrictive, one-dimensional cultural conditioning to fuller, more “whole” beliefs about ourselves.
To gain empowerment, we must go beyond the old thinking that we must be or act in a certain, predetermined, socially prescribed manner (for example, that women should please others and men should dominate). We must go beyond rigid thinking that we have all the answers and that there is nothing new under the sun to a new state of a sense of wonder. That is why we must deprogram our cultural conditioning and have an open mind.
Another obstacle to empowerment is low self-esteem. If we don’t love ourselves or don’t even like us, how can we trust our own thinking? Doubts about yourself, low self-confidence, lack of confidence in yourself – we all block our empowerment. If we do not think high on ourselves, we certainly do not really develop our independence.
And connected with low self-esteem is the other obstacle, lack of self-knowledge. It is difficult to empower ourselves if we do not really know ourselves.
Another major obstacle to empowerment, which is also related to low self-esteem, is old unclear issues. Issues that are difficult or not resolved cloud our thinking and mostly block our energy flow. They influence our behavior as behind the scenes, unconscious motivators and do not allow us to have real control over ourselves – or to be empowered. Being empowered means being clear of-course, thinking all clearly, seeing obvious clearly and acting accordingly.
Fears are also a major obstacle to empowerment. Our fear stops us and robs us of the will. It is an energy that is getting closer, instead of expanding outwards. It is a block for the free flow of energy. Being energized is being clear, letting your energy flow freely. Fear prevents us from being self-reliant and clairvoyant.
Passivity and dependence are also blocks for empowerment. To gain empowerment, we must be independent, we must be active. Again, this does not mean that other people are excluded; one can be independent and connected. Being independent means being somewhat independent, having integrity (wholeness, independence) in a natural, free-flowing way. Being passive and dependent means giving power away.
Lack of knowledge is also an obstacle to empowerment. To gain empowerment, one must be as self-reliant as possible. It is difficult to be independent without knowledge. Sages have spoken through the ages about the importance of knowledge. Contemporary near-death people have also emphasized its importance. As we supplement our knowledge, we add it to our warehouse with data we can draw on. As we supplement our knowledge, we are better able to think for ourselves. Lack of knowledge puts us in a weakened and impoverished state that is not conducive to empowerment. As Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge itself is power.”
Similarly, the lack of self-development is an obstacle to empowerment. If we have not developed any parts of ourselves, we have less than we can trust in ourselves. As we develop always more facets of ourselves, we know about ourselves better and become more self-reliant. Our trust is also stimulated and we become whole more. In this way, we can strengthen ourselves more and in more areas.
These are some of the obstacles to empowerment and many of these factors are interrelated. Certainly low self-esteem, fear, dependence and unclear issues are interconnected. As we continue to clean it up, others are also affected.
Given the obstacles to empowerment, which some or all of us can influence to varying degrees, how do we proceed to empowerment? How do we remove the obstacles?
Let me first say that we must all follow our own paths. The path that I have followed can differ greatly from your path. By searching for it and following your intuition, you will find your own path.
That said, I want to propose some possible steps or directions. Some of these can be painfully clear. Some may feel more attractive than others. We all come to things at the right time. If it makes sense, try it. Remember that empowerment is a process that is gradually developing.
Investigate the alternative modalities and disciplines to break through the walls of ‘totalitarian’ thinking. The more we are exposed, with an open mind, to non-mainstream ideas, the more we begin to discover our own truths.
Instead of a “regular” (allopathic) doctor, try going to an alternative doctor. Try a holistic doctor, acupuncturist, massage therapist, herbalist, etc.
Read about different cultural philosophies and religions: Native American, Indian, Egyptian, Mayan, African, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, folklore, etc. There is wisdom everywhere. What feels good to you? Remember that what feels right now may feel wrong later and vice versa. (What feels right or wrong right now may be the result of problem-related button presses, but that’s an extension we’re not going into now.
Rick probably thinks this article is too long!) Try to be open as your exploration. The more you explore alternative modalities with an open mind, the more you deprogram your mind and let it grow in new ways. Dig up what you’re being exposed to. Do not accept everything as gospel. You will gradually notice that you are developing your own ideas, a solid step towards empowerment.
Gaining self-confidence is also a process and there are several ways to try and facilitate it. A conventional approach is a therapy or counseling. This is a valid approach and does not have to be rejected automatically. If you choose to investigate this modality, carefully choose your therapist or counselor. Try to find one about whom you feel good, one with whom you feel an understanding. Also try to find someone who facilitates your process of self-discovery, rather than someone who controls or encourages you to depend on him/her or who brings his / her problems into your sessions.
Guided imagery meditation or regression sessions can also help build self-esteem by working on root causes. Energetic self-discovery can be gained in this way.
Developing your talents and skills can also increase self-confidence.
Remember that we all have our talents and have something to contribute. Remember that we all make mistakes and forgive yourself. Remember that the deepest beauty is that inside. Try to include these thoughts in daily confirmations.
Knowing yourself can be a difficult process. We tend to be stuck in our own ego and our self-perception tends to be emotionally colored by our needs, self-concept and degree of self-worth. Try to find that objective place in yourself, the place that is not affected by subjective or temporary concerns – the observer.
Observe yourself in most difficult situations and with every different people. What do you see? How do you respond?
Learn how your mind works. See yourself thinking by drawing on your internal objective observer.
Explore meditation as a means to observe yourself. Look at self-hypnosis.
What do you feel empathetic about? What repels you? What presses your buttons? Why is it pushing them? What are your talents? What interests you?
Troubleshooting is another process that can be a complicated and different path. Again, counseling or therapy can be an option, as well as regression therapy and guided image meditation.
Bodywork helps identify places in your body where problems and memories are stored can help erase them.
Bringing problems or problems that have not yet been solved into the past also helps as a precursor to solving them. Awareness and self-knowledge are closely intertwined.
If your problems entail content or other abuse, consider joining some of the support groups.
Search for patterns in your life. Do you find yourself constantly involved in similar dysfunctional situations or with similar dysfunctional people (to use psychological terms)? Search for the cause again.
Know that you can solve your problems. Know that you can feel clearer and happier and more content. Know that others have walked this path before and that you can too.
Fears can be overcome. One of the first steps is recognizing fear of what it is. Often a fear can be disguised or disguised as something else. In short, love and trust / being positive open us up. Our energy flows freely outside. Fear encloses us and stops us.
Many fears are related to problems. Problem-solving can reduce anxiety. Fear can also be from the unknown, related to fear of not being accepted or loved, as well as fear of death. There is also the fear of not having enough, which has to do with not feeling safe in ourselves. As we work on self-esteem and gain knowledge, this fear decreases.
When you notice that you are reluctant, try to find out what is holding you back, what the fear is. Identifying the core problem can help. This can be done via the above modalities.
Try to go into your fear, a little at a time if necessary. True empowerment comes when we are “without fear,” when we are free from fear.
Realize that your fear is exactly that – a fear. Your fear of fear and your stopping are more insidious than fear.
When you become anxious, feel that anxiety. Let it wash over you. See where it leads you. It will end at a certain point. See yourself becoming normal again, with the fear receding.
When you feel fear and have identified the cause, focus on love. Try to wrap the fear spiritually in love, completely envelop it and enclose it in love. Breathe in fear, deep cleansing breathes from the belly. See the love grow in size and the fear shrink.
Remember that nothing can harm you unless you first allow it at a certain level.
Dealing with anxiety can also help. Dependence is often associated with low self-esteem and fears – being alone, not being loved, etc. We may feel that we are unable to take care of ourselves. Love in the past can mean giving up one’s power over oneself, the dependence of a child on its parents.
Independence can be liberating and exciting. It is also related to self-development. As we develop more of ourselves and solve our problems, the more we trust ourselves and so we become more independent. (Post: Empowerment)
The more we develop and learn and gain knowledge, the stronger we become. Therefore consider yourself a versatile person. Try not to feel that you can do or be only one thing. Being a super renaissance person easily can help you gain empowerment.
Is there something or special that you always wanted to do or learn? Allow yourself to explore.
It is much interesting to note that recent group research now reveals seven areas of intelligence, as opposed to the only two previously recognized: math and verbal. The other five areas are: physical, spatial, introspective, musical and interpersonal. Everyone can inherently have one of the above skills or a combination thereof. Furthermore, it has been found that if someone does not use all his / her abilities, he/she does not feel satisfied or satisfied.
We are all more than we were brought up to believe we are. Realize that you can do things that you may never have thought of. We all have untapped potential. As we develop ourselves, we also acquire knowledge of ourselves. Our self-image is growing.
Expanding your knowledge is also part of empowerment, and conversely, empowerment is a by-product of knowledge. Consider the case of someone who has just been diagnosed with a serious illness. This person can lean back and be powerless and fearful of the unknown, giving his / her power away to a doctor. OR he/she can take power by investigating the disease and collecting all the information and knowledge that he/she can and thereby know what he/she is dealing with and which modalities and ways to explore.

We all have an powerful internal voice that guides us. We know when something feels right or not. Learn to listen to your internal voice or, if you want, your “internal BS meter.”
Learn to distinguish what your voice is, how it feels, how it speaks to you. Your intuitive voice will be clear in favor and not emotionally colored. It will certainly feel. It will usually also be persistent. It can be experienced as a ‘feeling in the gut’. It can come as an image, feeling, words, etc. No matter how experienced it is, it is suitable for you.
Learn how your voice is and become friends with it. Believe it. By trusting it, you trust yourself. Your intuitive voice is one of the greatest gifts that you naturally have and that leads to self-empowerment. (Post: Empowerment)
