12 tips for teachers for a successful classroom
Teaching is difficult. The tips in teaching can save you time and money. The teachers of the Lucky 2nd Grade Teachers Facebook Group have put together a list of 25 learning tips that you should know about because they will make your life so much easier! Lots of fun !
1- Velcro Markers
Attach your Expo markers to the top of the board with Velcro so kids can’t reach them and their tips are pointing down to keep them cool. It also keeps the markers off the ledge, so you can use the ledge for other things like books, card baskets, pointers, etc.
2- Visual instructions
Teachers find labels for the everyday materials they need (glue stick, pencil guts.pk/shop/category/art-supplies/pencils/, markers, etc.). It is convenient to print the labels, laminate them and then add a magnet to the back. In times of transition, the materials needed for the next lesson are placed in a place where everyone can see it.
So that helps answer the question “What should we do?” It is a great help for students who learn by sight.

3- always do extras
When preparing for the start of the school year, prepare an additional package that can be distributed to the families at the beginning of the school year. Always plan 5 or more extras. The file contains the forms, a guide and the contact details that families should refer to throughout the year. When new students enroll throughout the year, the forms are ready to be filled in.
4- Use marking tape to save paper
Stick a piece of tape on the back of a journal or notebook. Students use this as a reading guide to avoid flipping through the pages of the magazine and returning to an old page. After using a page, the student places the ribbon behind it. Then they are ready for the next time they use their journal. This should be modeled several times at the beginning of the year. Students often even help each other with this.
5- File of very important articles
At the beginning of the year, laminate manila envelopes for each student and label them with the words “VIP – Very Important Papers”. An exacto knife can be used to cut the opening of the folder after rolling. Include any forms that need to be completed, along with a parental checklist. Then use it all year round for progress reports, documents, report cards, etc.
6- File of the absent student
Make a plastic manila shirt to help absent students. After the children are gone, have another student fill out the absence form and collect all the pages and notes sent home that day. The file is then placed in the locker of the absent student. The student can take the homework from this folder the next day if they have time, or take it home to finish and return.
7- Multiple waste baskets
Use small waste baskets as waste bins. This is to prevent 20 children from getting up to throw garbage while cutting.
8- Show what you learn on the board
Use a chart titled “Show what you learn”.
To make this activity quick and easy, kids should pick up a speech bubble with a magnet on the back and a dry erase marker with a hot glued pom pom on it (to erase) to quickly show they learned in class!
9- Challenge pencils
Hand out a “themed pencil” on the first day of the month. This pencil has an adhesive flag on the metal part with a matching student number on it. At the end of the day, have students leave their pencils on their name badges throughout the month to do a pencil check. Hand out stickers, coupons, etc. to students who still have them. On the last day of the month, collect the old pencils and give a new one. If a student still has the “challenge” pencil, he can get some sort of reward. Throw the old one away. It really reduces pencil waste and the use of sharpeners. Pencils left on reading tables or stations are also easily returned to their owner. Throwing pencils in the trash also reduces the risk of spreading germs.
10- Assign tasks to class groups
Prepare shapes for student tables and then use those shapes to assign and assign different tasks. Circles collect papers, squares, triangles, supplies, etc.
11- Save the capital letters
Save all glue stick caps and dry erase stick caps. If they are lost, simply tell the students to get them out of the “bottle” and move on without looking for a lost cap and keep working on the same topic. As a result, we have a smoother day and stocks that last longer. By keeping a container closed, we have a smoother day and supplies last longer.
12- The Hourglass
If you are working in a small group, give a two-minute hourglass to a student, not a member of that small group. The person with the timer looks at the students to see which one was “the most serious” and gives them the timer. Take your time to practice it first and don’t discuss giving it to your friends etc. Once this system is installed, the breakthrough time will be much more fruitful. Everyone wants to be the hourglass bearer!
